Hi everybody: Since sometimes is really hard to get the desired position trough the NRMP, I think is good to have other choices handy. MY question to all of you is if there is a posibility to work as a general doctor in USA, like family practice in an isolated or populated area, without doing residency, I mean being ECFMG certified, what is the procedure to do this if possible?. I saw a topic in this forum regarding this issue some weeks ago, but they said only a few states allow this, how can I know for sure all about this, or where can I enquire what are the states, what the requirements are, etc. I really appreciate your inputs

Actually, the ECFMG certificate doesn't allow you to work in any state. What you need to do is to get a state license to practice medicine. You can't get a license as an IMG without training in the US, because all states ask for a minimum of 1 year of postgraduate training, or even 3, like Texas, so you have to enter into a residency program in order to obtain a license to practice medicine in the US. The requirements for each state vary, and you can find information in the state board of the state where you plan to practice medicine.
