hi! how important are good scores ( say more than 90% ) in getting good programmes on IM in prestigious universities.

It's important, but it's not the only thing.

the thing is, they screen you. You have to get by the program coordinator before the PD even sees your application. So one of the ways they screen you is the USMLE score. A high score gets you over that barrier ... but there are more. Like BBB said, they are not the only factor ... US CE, US LoR, visa issues, etc.

The problem with scores is that having a good scores doesnt garuntees anything but having a bad one ensures your app. will 'most probably' go to the trash can unless you have something else that is truely outstanding.

thank u all. How competitive is IM residency? DO you really need 95+ / 95+ to get a decent residency in a decent teaching/University hospital? u guys obviously well into your residencies and have been thru all this before. still it is amazing the pearls of wisdom that u guys come up with.amount of insight u have into the world of USMLE and beyond!cool

I know people with low scores who still got University programs, but through the scarmble after the match.

hi i want to know as to wat are the scores limits for an img to be able to get a decent match in internal medicine w/o fretting oneself over it??

I don't think there is score limit.
