most common bacteria causing prosthetic valve infection ie an endocarditis is streptoccci virdans stap affects the valve in case of iv drug abusers and it is most common organism in the prosthesis example femoral implants so endocarditis in iv drug abuser is affected by stap endocarditis

Staph. epidemidis is just ONE of the coagulase negative staphylococci, which are usually not speciated, even in positive blood cultures. They are compared by sensitivity patterns. CNS is also a common contaminant, so sometimes it's dificult to determine whether this organism is a pathogen or a contaminant. I would hazard a guess that IV drug abusers usually have Staph. AUREUS endocarditis as opposed to CNS. They probably also have the MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staph. aureus) variety.
