Hi guys, I may sound a n00b here but I was just wondering what's the usual dress code for residents. Especially Internal Medicine. Are there any specific or general guidelines we have to follow. Do we have to wear a tie everyday considering the fact that where I am going, summers are quite warm. Also do we have to wear leather dress shoes only and no sneakers and regarding pants can we wear the khakis (e.g. dockers) or do we have to wear only the usual dress pants colors like black and grey etc. I don’t think they allows jeans Or Tees or do they ? Also what rotations are scrub suits for?

dress shirts with ties and dress slacks with dress shoes. Unless you are on call/post-call, you can wear scrubs. Standard pretty much everywhere, although at U. Hawai'i they don't wear ties I believe.

Yes, you are a professional Also do we have to wear leather dress shoes only and no sneakers and regarding pants can we wear the khakis (e.g. dockers) or do we have to wear only the usual dress pants colors like black and grey etc. Dockers are acceptable with a dress shirt. Sneakers are acceptable, but never with dress slacks. Please!!!! And no white socks - if you want to wear sport socks - they do come in black also..... I don't think they allows jeans Or Tees or do they ? Not at my hospital - jeans will have you pulling extra call for violating the hospital dress code. Also what rotations are scrub suits for? Units and when you are on-call only. The best way to judge is to see what others are doing. Especially the PD. He can be a good guide!
