Tell me about it Kaira...hmmm...it amazes me to think that i had actually wanted to be an antomy teacher when i was in my second year at med school...it does make me laugh out loud considering the current situation....but oh well...can't complain too mcuh...cos that makes it even harder... i went to the library today...worked out great...and am finally done with neuroanatomy...smiling face...want to skim through neuroanatomy from FA today...but i don't think i can...it feels as if my brain has just gone numb...i guess thats what too much neuroanatomy does to you...but its all good...shall move on back to gross anatomy tom....whats botherin me right now is that i havent really done any questions on neuroanatomy...cos high yield is just a review book...no questions...i have NMS neuroanatomy...should i do questions from there first and then move on to gross anatomy...or just finish off wit anatomy as a whole and then do questions from Qbook?all suggestions would be very welcome...till i get feedback to this...hopefully by tom...i think i shall move on to gross anatomy...till tom..

Thanx kaira....I got done with anatomy over the weekend...took a break from studying though...bu managed to finish off anatomy..am left with histology though...but that should not be much of a problem....it wasn't that bad when it came down to the abdomen and the visceras and stuff....smiling face...(can't believe i am actually saying this after all the tantrums above...hehe...)...did test 1 from Q book yest...scored a some what disappointing 66%...then read throgh the expalainations...did the second test yesterday too...scored an 88% on that...smiling face...and that ended the day for me yesterday...got up early today and read through the explainations....did another block of 50 questions from Q bank for anatomy...scored a 76%..did not feel like going through the explainations...and then just moved on to biostats...am using the appleton lange review for it...and so far so good...will probably be done with it by tomorrow....shall then do some questions...after this i shall be left with pharmacology...and finishing that will fianlly end my first read...have a question....where do i do histology from...would kaplan notes be enough...what about high yield histology...i have the book...but it just seems too much...will appreciate any suggestions regarding this....till then...

  #79

so i am at the library right now...been here for about two and a half hours...finished off with biostats yest....did the test at the end of the review book here today...had a 100 questions...scored an 80% which was good...read through the explainations...and taking a break...smiling face...and yeah...did another block of 50 qs from Qbank from anatomy yest...and read through the explainations...am thinking of now doing th biostats Q bank ques here in the lib...and then go home and continue with the rest of the anatomy questions...shall be starting with phramacology tom...i never really liked it back in med school...so am not really looking forward to it...and cud some one plz help me out with the histology query in my last post...shall appreciate it!!

  #80

hi cyra...hw r u?

as far as histo is concerned...i did it frm kaplan as i felt high yield ws too much..........read many post abt it before where people had dne histo frm kaplan soo made a choice of sticking wth kaplan.......bt if u hav the book i thnk u cn give it a try and do it frm tht book which u feel more comfortable.....
good luck

Hey kaira...good to have you back!...i think i shall use kaplan for histology as well..it seems manageable...high yield is massive...didn't have that great a day today....had a late start...wasn't feeling too well...managed to read through the first section of pharmacology in kaplan notes and just was barely able to listen to the lectures...the plan for today was to continue with another block of 50 q from Q bank...but i never manged to get to that...tomorrow hopefully would be a better day...off to sleep considerably early today...thanx for the encouragement kaira...some one lent me their BSS books a little while back but its a really old edition...i think it is 1997..and that would not work!...i am thinking of getting the latest edition for BSS now....a few pointers her would be helpful...thanx in advance!...

  #82

u always get ur ups and lows.........so dnt worry just keep gng....
my bss is 2nd edition.......i dnt knw how old is tht.....i hav it in the cd format too bt somehow i like the books.....
if u cn lay hands on the latest ...thn its nothng like it.....just rembember to keep lot of time in hand fr solving...it takes ages to read the explanations......
hope everythng goes as planned 2day

  #83

hey....read through the auntonomic pharmacology over the weekend...and realized that kaplan probabaly wasn't doing the trick for me...i dread pharmacology like no other subject...and just feel that kaplan is for ppl who already have a strong grasp on the subject...which unfortunately i don't...plus i am not that great at memorizing stuff..found all the info too condensed..but still too much info to cram just like that!...i hope i am making sense here...so as pharma from kaplan was turning out to be a killer...i turned to lippincott's review...and started reading drugs for the cardiovascular system from there...found it some what better and am planning to stick to it...didn't do much though...it being the weekend and all...but i hope the coming week will be productive...have left solving Qbank for anatomy for the moment...will prob do blocks of 50 in the evenings in the coming week...

kaira...i checked it out...the second edition is the only one that is there for BSS...and i have just two of the books from the BSS set of five i think?...am looking around for the rest of the books or the cd...hopefully will find a good deal soon...thank you though!take care...

  #84

i thnk u cn check ebay fr the rest of the books....maybe u get a good deal.....
stick to the book which u find comfortable....
all the best

Hey Reet...firstly...is it aftr your first reading that you are getting this score?...and secondly...what resource are you using for the questions...Q bank?...Q book?....if you are using Q bank...i'd advise you not to use it so early in your reading...it will be helpful if you used Q book initially...unless i know what resources you have used and stuff...lookign forward to hearing from you soon....Good luck!

  #87

hi cyra

i have BRS patho,FA, Q Book. After finishing one reading i go to board and ward site..their some practice questions..it was good to see score report..so i did that..now i think i should read FA 'n' then solve qbook.but i aresdy took 7 days..i thought i would finish in 5 days..coz i wanna take exam in mid october..i just started my revision for all subjects....first patho...then physio...so i wanna finish all in one month....nod

thnx cyra for advice....good luck

hey cyra........hwz it gng wth lippincott?? do give me some inputs and let me knw wht im missing by dng only kaplan..
good luck

  #89

Hi kaira...have been a bit irregular in posting yet again...smiling face...I gave up on lippincott like a day after i decided to use it...not that it isn't a great book...it was a considerably easy read as compared to kaplan and i read through a couple of chapters on CVS from it...but then i became apprehensive...cos it has a lot of detail...and sure the way its given there helps build great concepts but pharmacology isn't allll concept...is it now??...it is a lot of memorization....so i just decided to go for kaplan....it has a lot of high yield stuff from what i have been told like picking out the drigs of choice for a disease.... any thing that i donot understand...i turn to lippincott for it(which by the way i don't have to that often...so thats a good sign)....a friend of mine advised me to go through kaplan and to know FA inside out for pharmacology...she said the questions on the exam for pharma are pretty straight forward...and that those two resources should suffice....that being said....i do have a feeling that i have made the right choice...so am onto CNS pharmacology...just about to finish it...still have trouble remebering the drugs and all the crappy side effects and stuff...but oh well...repetition would be the key...with pharma and microbiology!!

  #90

Did the chapters on antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals and antiprotozoals/helminths today....It is the most horrible feeling to start with pharma in the mroning...I literally have to drag myself...but i work hard at it...take little breaks every now and then...today was good in the sense that i finally have figured out how i am going to get Pharmacology to eventuall stick!!...I had pharma cards and had planned to use them once i had read through the notes..but today as i was having the most terrible time trying to remember the antimicrobials i just took them out on a whim...it helped me quite a bit...i made extra notes on the cards wherever i thought was nescessary...and arranged them according to the drug classes instead of in alphabetical order...i think it will prove beneficial once i review pharma the second time round...as far as retaining stuff is concerned...well...today was just as bad as any other day at pharma...but i have come to terms with it...i can't spend too much time on my first read either...cos volatile as it is...i am bound to forget the drugs...anyways...i need some more advice...yet again!...how essential is it to listen to the corresponding lectures in pharmacology?...i know they did wonders for me in biochem...i did listen to the ones for CVS but was soooo bored and could not concentrate...looking forward to some help here!till tomorrow...

  #91

Its been a long time since i last posted!!....my computer got messed up...and is still not a 100% fixed...and it sucks because i was thinking of getting Q bank in a few more days...oh well!1 hopefully it will be sorted out by then...so i got done with pharmacology....finally!!!!did a test from Q book..scored a 60%...not all that great...so pharmacology needs a lot more work!...any ways...moved on to starting my second read...but just couldn't get the flow goin...ended up wasting the entire day yest...and by evening just gave up on studying...o in the past two days(finished pharma on the7th)...i just read through the first two chapters from BRS physio and like half of GIT...today how ever was more productive comparativley....finished off CVS...went through the explainations of about 20 questions from my first Qbank test on pharmacology...have decided to do around 30 odd questions everyday...i just hope it sticks!!...heres the plan....read through physiology along with FA...carry on with pharma questions with that...and follow this by solving Q bank fro physiology...better be off...till tomorrow!

  #92

Read through endocrinology along with FA...had thought of finishing off the rest of GIT but couldn't...ended up doing end of the chapter questions and corresponding questions from kaplan physio...shall start with solving Qbank in a day or two...dead tired...off to sleep early!

  #93

Am done with resp physiology..did the end of chapter review questions for respn from kaplan lecture notes...extremely beneficial for strengthening concepts...onto renal phsiology tom.

  #94

Hey Cyra,

Was jus wondering where you went to med school? Good luck with your prep by the way. Nice dairy smiling face

Hey Octo...good to hear from you!I went to med school in Pakistan...read your post in the exam experiences ...very well said!It indeed is difficult to get back to reviewing stuff after one has graduated...that said,we still don't have the system based teaching method being implemented in our med schools...its changing but not quite there ...so it is really during/after final year that one can integrate and correlate well!I just hope it works out just great for all of us...glad you like my diary...smiling face

Finished physiology yest...went through FA too...got access to Q bank today and started doing questions...did about 50 with explainations and then another 25...shall go through the expl for those tomorrow...shall be starting with patho...and will continue doing Qbank for physio side by side...till later...ciao

  #96

Started with pathology...have gone through about four chapters...although i could have managed a lot more...but couldn't manage a lot of studying today....have to get down to doing patho questions from Q bank soon too as i got done with the physioology bit...scored a cumulative of 65%...which isn't all that great...so am a bit low about that...but oh well...

  #97

hey cyra gr8 progress........
sorry cudnt post in before due to my shifting and internet connection...........

dnt worry abt the score fr q bank...u dng good....dnt forgt to read the explanation well...
one quick question... r u dng patho frm goljan....hav u heard his lectures??

happy studyingsmiling face

  #98

Thankyou Kaira!!!i was thinking if you didn't show up in a couple more days...i'd probably lose my resolve in posting here...smiling face...but its all good!!...i am going through the explainations...jotting down stuff along with it too...and takes a looong time!!i attempt the questions in the timed mode though....and then read through the explaiantions...am going through BRS and FA simultaneously...and am trying my level best to fit in the Goljan lectures...have listened to the ones on cell injury till now...cos i gets hectic...and no matter how hard i try...i can only manage an hour and a half at the most for the lectures....the lectures are amazing so far!!!...He is a brilliant teacher...and i have you to thank for recommending the lectures....i presume you have aready heard the lectures??

So today i read through the heart and hemodynamic dusfunction ...did 50 q from q bank...read the expl to 40...and then moved onto the Goljan lectures...the last half of the lecture on cell injury...couldn't go through FA...get down to it tom...dead tired!!better be off...

  #99

Went through another two chapters today...listened to the corresponding goljan lectures...they are awesome!!...and i wish i had gone through them with my first read which would have made life a lot easier!...did another 50 q for patho from Q bank...read through the expl for 25 of them...have 25 more to go...but am saturated at the moment...shall go through them first thing tom morning....listening to the lectures takes a long time...but i think every minute is worth it....had planned on being done with pathology in about 12 days but it might just take slightly longer...sall have to see how it works out!...till later...

  #100

ur always welcome cyra....smiling face

just dnt worry ur dng gr8....actually i tried listening 2 his lectures during my 1st read on patho bt i just didnt gt many thngs...i mean he mixes many subject on one topic...so thoes thngs i just cudnt grasp....soo i didnt hear his lectures...a friend of mine told me tht listening to his lectures after ur 1st read is an excellent way to grasp each and everythng he says.........soo i thnk ur on the right track....will listen to the lectures myself during my patho read....
