Can someone explain dna footprinting in an easier way?kaplan says it is a method by which a protien bound to dna is detected by dnase 1.The protien will be deduced by loss of fragment by dnase. What does loss of that fragment means?

Proteins like transcription factors bind to promoter region which are present in the gene. DNA footprinting is used to identify the regions in the gene occupied by a protein. The part of the gene on which there isnt any protein bound is susceptible to DNAse.

Hope this helps
