cushing syndrome is due to hypercortisolism of any cause(most common-long term glucocorticoid therapy). excluding this most common cause, the cushing syndrome is divided into 3 types.pit.cushing(cushing disease),adrenal&ectopic cushing.also another classification is primary&secondary hypercortisolism.secondary is same as pituitary cushing. ACTH IS DECREASED IN PRIMARY.(ADRENAL&ECTOPIC) ACTH IS INCREASED IN SECONDARY.(IN CUSHING DISEASE) regarding androgens i am not sure in cushing case.but they definately increase in 21OH-def&11-OH-def.,along with ACTH increase.

well tht's a nice explanation..... androgens will inrease in both of the cushing's (pituitary and adrenal), however tht will not be the case with exgenous administration of excess steroids..

it does get increase ... but in true sense it's ectopic ACTH ;a glycoprotein quite similar to the one secreted by pituitary!
