OASIS TRICK : Facts and Myths Dear Friends, After a long delay of 9 weeks, OASIS showed score release date in my a/c. Red lines appeared and that mean I’ve passed out step 1! (Unless oasis is not 100% accurate) Anyway I wish to tell everyone here about facts and myths about oasis trick which I have learned by reading valuable posts of different users’ experience who went thru this trick…. First and foremost…oasis trick is NOT 100% accurate and specifically accuracy is less when it allows you to go for registration and student anticipate that he/she might have failed usmle step (as someone said in this forum: High false negatives=allowing one to register for step despite he/she has passed that step in reality). How oasis trick works in technical lingo? Well! It’s simple! When oasis a/c of student is updated with score release date in USMLE exam/score section, ecfmg computers simultaneously (for most of time!) updates IWA application also. So if one has passed out step, IWA does not allow him/her to register for same step using his/her USMLE ID. However, false negatives are reported by many students & that is mostly because of no simultaneous update of student’s account in the IWA section. Hence, IWA allows you to register for same step even though you have passed the same step (false negative). Please remember that oasis trick works with best accuracy (though not 100% accurate) only and only when your score release date is seen in oasis a/c. In case you have tried oasis trick before score report date, following two events are mostly seen. 1. Simply it allows you to re-register as IWA nor OASIS is not aware of whether you have given step and/or status of your result. 2. In some cases, following lines are seen while doing trick: "Our records indicate that you are already registered for this Step or Step Component. You may not apply for a Step or Step Component if you are already registered for that Step or Step Component. If you fail a Step or Step Component, you may submit another application for this exam, but certain time limits apply for retaking a Step or Step Component. For complete information, refer to Reexamination and Reapplication in the ECFMG Information Booklet and Retakes in the USMLE Bulletin of Information." If these lines appear instead of letting you in for registration or showing standard “NO, you can’t register as you have passed this exam….”, possible guess is because you have tried oasis trick… • Before your score report date AND • Your eligibility period for same step exam is not finished at the time of trick. (If your period is finished by then, then oasis trick will mostly allow you to register provided your score is not reported. Finally, in extreme case, oasis trick may allow you to register despite your score are reported and in reality you have passed the exam (which can be confirmed only by waiting for those most stressful days awaiting for your score card to come in your hand!?! That’s why so many other experienced users of this forum and I request everyone not to go for oasis trick as it will just create an unnecessary anxiety if it shows false negatives. (“..I did it until 4 wks after the exam and it still let me re-register with no problem. I received the result and I couldn't believe it: 239/97..!! Even one day before they mail it, I could re-register. ..Only if it does not let you re-register, you can be sure you have passed it, but the opposite is not always true. I regret I did it and had so many terrible nights in vain.” – White Coat) I hope this post will help many of examinees here seeking for oasis trick. Though I did this trick, it’s my advice not to go for this to avoid stress in case of false negative blinks there! Good luck to all here -samsung

Thanks Samsung. I have been vacillating between whether to go in for the trick or not. I guess I finally will! Or maybe not
