Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hi everyone,
I got my result today..
Got 99/254!
However, I must admit here that it was absolutely no surprise at all to me. I worked hard on that. I studied nearly 18 hours a day as I do not have any clinical experience whatsoever after my MBBS , and that to I did not work a single day in USA.
I mastered Kaplan step 3 material somuch so ,if you tell me the topic I will tell you the page no and the exact location of the textline.I crushed the crush the step 3 in equal measure.I added loads of notes on Crush the boards to make it comprehensive.I viewed Kaplan videos 3 times and made notes.I did Kaplan q bank and preserved that in memory.I downloaded usmleworld ccs cases and mastered them.I practiced the MCQs every single day of my preparation(6 months) , nearly 300 of them. I used everything, Kaplan step 2 and 3, q books, and q banks, Usmleworld for step 2 and 3, NMS for step 2 and 3, Usmleasy, and then older versions of Kaplan 1999 on ethics.
To start with my scores are 60 to 70% in usmleworld, 80% in Kaplan step 2, 70% in step 3, and in NMS I consistently got 90%.Same was the case with usmleasy too. As my wife is a physician too, I discussed with her extensively every single day . She comments that I drink step3, eat step 3 and breath step 3. Workouts and entertainments are virtually out for these 6 months.I have ordered that none of my son's friends should visit our house for these 6 months.I knew that I have what it takes to pass this exam, and it was a pleasant experience to get that coveted 99.
By this I have proved beyond reasonable doubt that it is imminently doable exam and it was a false notion that IMGs require at least an year of experience to pass this exam.
I am happy to share my knowledge and wisdom in getting the better of this exam.
Finally if any of you want my materials I am happy to depart with them, for a price or otherwise! Ask me , I am happy to give advice!!

How do you download usmleworld?

  #6

Hi
go to www.usmleworld.com , get registered with them for step 3, and then you can download the CCS stuff. (Initial 60 cases).Rest you can study from the website.
However, please realise that, step 3 is 80% MCQs and 20% CCS. Prepare well for MCQs!.That is the secret of any body for success.

Hi All

Thanks for the wishes.I am sorry to tell you that my materials are not available. They were infact taken by one of the friends the very next day of anouncement of my results. As I have described earlier , it is nothing but Kaplan with heavy focus of what is being told on video. If you make notes on the corners, you can read that next time and you dont have to undergo the painful process of watching the videos again.(who has time, anyway?)Doing questions is an absolute must, no matter what stage of preparation you are in.People keep on avoding this and think that they should master the material first and then attempt to answer them next. This never happens since Medicine is an ever changing science, and is so vast that nobody can genuinely master that. With each and every question keep learning something and make a mental notes of what is being tested. As Conrad Fischer of Kaplan puts it, there are only certian ways of a question can be asked in some diseases.

Let us say , Atrial Fibrillation.

They can give you an ECG and ask to identify that, which is expected of a GP.

They may ask the management of it, if patient is stable, and then unstable, the drug for rate controlling, drug of choice for rate controlling in presence of comorbidity and then when everything else failed, what do you do? (Start on Warfarin for lifetime.)

I do not see anyother question can be asked on Atrial fibrillation more than this. If you prepare for the exam in this way , with every single clinical condition, you will do much more than simply passing the exam.

After all I am no genius, I just worked hard.( I had just above average academic record until this happened.)

So, Keep trying. All the very best in all your future endeavours.

Best regards

Hi

Thanks for the nice words.I got my pre-match in NewYork.I was offered during the interview.I took it without blinking.

I studied Kaplan step2 material, step3 material and usmleworld.More than the material , how we study for the exam matters I think. My residency in Pediatrics is going good. Here they work for long hours, talk a little toomuch( for my comfort) and basically do the same thing what we have done back home

Goodluck for all the step 3 aspirants.

Wow!

18 hours a day and for six months? There's a devil called distraction. How did you manage to beat it up? Saying no to 'workouts and entertainment' is one thing, but taming your mind for such a long span is quite, quite another. Please advise me on how to concentrate.

thanks man, even though i dont have to give step 3 this year, i will defnitely preserve this post for future reference. congrats for the prematch and all the best!!
