First of all, sorry for the delay, I had to move to my new place right after the exam therefore I don’t have internet.

About the exam…I am so pissed off, there were 22 questions that I don’t know out of 8 blocks…..JUST KIDDING people….LOL. The exam was very tough for me. I just hope that I pass.

Ok about the exam
Internal Med = I got test heavily in Resp then Cardio…then Endo. Every other questions started out like ..pt come in w/either SOB or dysnea. In cardio, knowing the caused is NOT good enough, for exam cardiomyopathy, you have to know the pathogenesis behind it. Topic I got tested…COPD,emphysema,TB,lung CA,lung mass, abscess related to alcohol, cardiomyopathy,MG,MS,oh yeah….god damn…lots of back pain crabs,GI bleed upper and lower, 2 EKG, 3 derm slides,

OB/GYn = 1st tri bleed,3rd tri bleed, 1 strip and asked for Rx, abortion, rp for STD, next step in management given case scenario, breast CA, endo bleed, OCP,menopause, placenta previa, placenta abrupt, uterine bleed, endometriosis,

PEDS = couple mile stones, epiglotitis, croup,RDS and know Rx,IMMUNIZATION AND IMMUNIZATION AND IMMUNIZATION…you guys get the point ? 2 xray and asked for next step, wiskcott,CGD,digeorge,Down,Fragile,

PSY = pretty straight forward. I was hoping a lot of psy but did not get that much..damn. my favor subject, Kaplan is enough.

PREVENTION MED = KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS. They asked a lot on this topic. Probably around 50 questions in total. There were questions given the whole scenario, then at the end, they asked for “the best prevention” ain’t that **…LOL

Advises = study prevention prevention and immunization. It seems like a new trend of questions. I thought I knew some topics pretty well, but then they freaking asked for prevention….damn. Oh yeah, get a good night sleep is right. I got 1 ½ hours of sleep the night before, keep on turning and twisting (I thought I had bed ulcer).

If you guys have any other questions, just drop me a question here and I will try to answer. In the mean time…I have to go PRAY AND PRAY…

SLEEPWALK

Hi Tas,

Thank you very much.

I concentrate on my notes from UW which is around 120 pages. Just go over concepts b/c I could not do anymore questions. And I also did Crush which is pretty good. When is your exam ?

Hi IL,

Thank you very much.

I think that kaplan and UW is good enough for CONCEPTS only. But you have to learn how to apply it to diff scenerios. It's hard to said which part of kaplan is lacking b/c I read from diff source and do lots of questions so it's difficult to pin point. I did not like kaplan sur or psy that much b/c it's long and boring. I used crush and questions from UW is good enough. Ped, Ob and internal is pretty good in kaplan

Hi dev

thank you very much

I got an average score in NBME 480. All I am hoping is to pass with 75+. Respiratory was very touch for me. I did not expected. I thought they will ask more in endo so I spend most of mine study in that area. So when is your exam ? good luck

Hi Intern_doc,

I'm kinda new to the forum...I saw your post exam reply..Thanks for helping us all out with your experience. I got some more minor annoying questions..I did my step 1 but unfortunatley didn't get thru with a 181....But I couldn't do step 1 again so I switched to step 2...I've bene studying for almost a 1 month n 1/2 n planning to take the step 2 by june 2nd...Anyways, don't have much time to go thru kaplan but using FA and Crush and taking notes from UW.....Do u think an average of 55% of UW is ok before I walk in there...And did u use kaplan notes or other resources.....I just can't afford to fail again....thanks.....

Hi Abiguar,

Dont worry, look like we are in the same boat. I failed my step 1 just like you did, so dont feels ashamed. I think there are lots of people on this forum had fail before but just dont feels like posting it here. Anyway, after I flunk my step 1....I feels kind of tired of looking through that stuff again...so I took the Step II CS and passed it, thank god. About my step II, I thought that it's pretty good for step 1 preparation. Lots of questions I see here were asked on step I and I did not even know the answer. LIsten I am no expert in preparing this USMLE step as other, but here is my sincerely advises for studying step II.

This is what I did..

I did UW questions twice and try to understand each concepts well. Dont worry about the score on UW b/c it's a learning tools. As you already know, UW is very detail and picky about the answer. They tend to put a trick answer on there so that you will definitely make mistake. When doing UW questions for the first time, I thought that the questions were not that hard, but I keeps on making mistakes. During my second time around, I read the questions VERY CAREFULLY....I then pick the right answer. I spend a lot of time doing questions. I think you should at least maser CRUSH or FA. I did not read FA cuzz I found it very boring. I did crush instead and love it. I suggest you do a lot of questions since you dont have time to read kaplan. I did probably around 5000 questions using diff sources. By doing questions, you will find that same concepts will tested in diff way, so it helps a lot.

Good luck on your study

Back to praying nod
