squamous cell cancer

"Squamous cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that normally develops on areas exposed to the sun. It can spread to other parts of the body. Most cases of squamous cell cancers can be cured, if detected early.

Causes: Overexposure to UV rays of the sun.
Diagnosis: Biopsy.
Warning Signs: How do you identify squamous cell carcinoma? Often this cancer appears as a firm red bump, and may feel scaly with red patches. It is typically found on the top of the nose, forehead, lower lip and hands. Over 90% of the above types of skin cancer can be cured. However they must be treated promptly"

E. Squamous cell carcinoma
SCC invloves lower part of face while BCC invloves upper part..

I feel this q is simply asking what is the difference in location between squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma. Except for location, I do not know how one can tell one from the other from this presentation. Goljan made a point in Step1 review that lower lip and under is SCC and upper lip and above is BCC. Anyway, I would like to see his generalization is reconfirmed by another source.

ans is BCC
this q is asking abt the most common skin cancer. Just on the basis of appearance its difficult to say whether its SCC or BCC and sun ecposure is a risk factor fr both of them.
one thing i m not sure of is whether lower lip being fixed to madible has any significance (that takes it in favour of BCC)??

The question asked about 'correct' diagnosis, where did it say 'most common'?

i m not saying that...
what i said was when the question does not give specific findings, we need to think what is more common.

pretty confusing. Aren't lesions on lower lip more consistent with SCC?

I dont think there is anything in the question to differentiate between SCC and BCC other than the location and that is in the favor of SCC
