Can anybody tell me how competitive is it to get into a Psychiatry residency for a FMG nowadays? I have heard that it is getting more and more competitive, and that applicants should have in average 200 Step 1 score. Does anybody have any input on that? Thanks in advance! Cure4All

There are no hard and steadfast rules when it comes to who gets selected and who does not.But generally speaking it does make sense that the higher your scores the better your chances. Psychiatry good field....good pay, work hours not stressful and very IMG friendly.

As far as I can tell Psy is getting more competitive every year. I know a couple of programs that used to get mostly IMGs for the interviews. Now it's mostly AMGs. In psychiatry scores are not as important as didication to the specialty.

it is getting a little more competetive. b4 it was 35% amgs but now it is 50% amgs. but it still i feel the 2nd easiest to get after FP. also it is the coolest and most interesting field. u get 2 out of 3 of the following: sex, drugs and rock n roll. which other field can state this??
