I have always been the difficult case in my life. I have a very strong CV (1 year general surgery in greece, rated 1st in medical olympics, 8 medline publications (in 4 primary investigator), doctoral dissertation and strong letters of recommendation) I passed step 2 with 78 - because I was serving the military service during the period of my preparation. I was told by a vice chairman of an US orthopaedic department that there are possibilities for me to get into orthopaedics. What do you think? Should I continue with the rest of the USMLE exams? Please advice!

I'd ask that Chairman for a letter of recommendation - that would be useful!! Good luck

You sound like a super-star but the top US trained Med. students would find it difficult to get in to orthopedic surgery with 78 Here is a quote for you from "First Aid for the Match' "it is common for residency programs to usa USMLE Step 1 scores to screen applicants, with a cutoff ranging form the 75th to 85th percentile"- I understand that would translate into a minimum Step m1 score of approx 235-240 This is what they advise fro US_TRAINED students. IMGs are at a major disadvantage to begin with. I would look for a surgical residency and then try and switch, alternatively, ask the program director you know for a position. it is your only chance Good luck JOe

Thank you for your contribution. I am preparing for the rest of the exams. I hope that God will help me. I know that I am trying to do the impossible. It is hard to begin with this option. Thank you

hi: I passed the step 1 and step 2 but with the mimimum score , I tried so hard 'cause i have to work so many hours and I did not have enough time for studying, but I'm concern now in How could i get a residency with my low score, i know that the program looks for students with really good score but in my opinion the qualities of the student, have to count too, u can have 75 the score but may be the person is a hard worker and have a lot of knowledge but for differents reason did not on the test. thanks, Niurka. l
