I think they become from the stem cells which are found on the bottom of CRYPT of LIEBERKUHN. Those stem cells are precursors of all the cells in the crypts (enterocytes, enteroendocrine, Paneth, goblet).

It is Human defensin 5 in normal paneth cells....
