It is said that "The red cells have an osmotic pressure five times as that of plasma."(Essential Hematology; Hoffbrand, Pettit and Moss; 4/e, p/18)
How could it be? Shouldn't the RBC swell and brust at such a low osmotic environment? I am quite confused. Can anyone help?
