What do you think, if you can help me with anything like tips, I'm happy to hear. One question. What do they ask for? Dignostic methods, treatments...dx. Thank you!!

Hi, I am planning on taking Step 3 by teh end of the end of the year. I have no idea where to start! from this forum I understand how important it is to do UW MCQ+CCS. But in terms of books, do I need the Kaplan Step 3 books? What would be your advice? Does anyone know where I can purcahse Kaplan books? Any advice and how to go about studying for this test would be more then helpful. Thanks!

Hello Everyone, I have been getting lot of emails regarding, how to prepare and what to read etc. I thought I will write down here at the bulletin board for all. Two - Three months for Step 3 prep is a good amount of time. All below listed material is what I used for my personal preparation. You preparation may or may not be limited to all this material. Please use the material and advice accordingly. Material Used ============= • Kaplan - Live Lecture Notes - Q Book - Q Bank - Kaplan CD • Online USMLE World questions + CCS • Online Discussion Threads • Crush Step 3 • Blueprints in Ob/Gyn ; Peads MCQ === Kaplan Live lecture notes are very very important. At least 95% is from the notes. If you do them well, it is guaranteed that you will pass. I did them thoroughly at least twice. I also joined Kaplan Q Bank for 3 months. Initially I started with 10 -15 questions and then a set of 50 question a day. By the time the exam was near I could easily do at least 150 -200 question in one day ( also reading the explanations) Scored about 68-74% in these Q Bank questions. Kaplan Q Book, the question are different from Q Bank online. Q Book questions are difficult but very very useful. Explanations are extremely useful. I was able to do it just once. Did it 2 weeks before the exam. Kaplan Lecture Notes Material. -> It is very concise and to the point. An extremely useful. No need to spend time reading big textbooks. This should be the prime source for preparation. Textbooks are too vast to cover. Kaplan books are also easy to read. Kaplan Q bank is also very very useful. Practice as many questions as you can from it. As you may already be knowing that multiple questions can be formed by changing one lab value or clinical settings. Make sure you are thorough with the practice. Along with these Kaplan notes, I also used BP as lot of question come on Peads and OB/gy. So prepare well for these topics. About CCS Cases ============= I joined USMLEWorld.com for the CCS Cases. I also joined MCQ's in this website. MSQ's over here are little tough. I use to score between 55 and 65 in these questions. Read all CCS cases very thoroughly and practice. You will be able to print first 60 cases. After that once cannot print the remaining. So you can revise the earlier ones a lot number of times. I did all of them atleast 3 times. At the end of second day of exam, you will have some time in the evening. That's when these cases will come into picture. If you have revised them earlier, then you can manage to read some of them in a short span of time before the second day exam starts. Practice CCS cases. Write down on a sheet of paper what would you do. I look at results and order further tests/management/treatment. Lot of anxiety about this section but believe me it can be done. Practice on USMLE CD which FSMB send you when you register for the exam. IT has five cases. Do them very well Enter different tests in it just to practice. Get comfortable with the look of the system. Usually if a case is going right, then it ends in 12-16 minutes, or may be even early. I Hope all this above information is helpful to you in preparing for your step3. Good Luck,
