For a International Medicine Graduate and US citizen, do you really need 4 weeks of psychiatry doing your clerkship to be able to do a residency in the states? The curriculum in my school only had 2 weeks of psychiatry. Is this true?

yes you need it to get ECFMG certified. You can do a psych elective in the US, or if you are Indian, do a psych rotation during your housemanship

I think it varies from state to state. e.g. Illinois definitly requires 4 weeks of psych training for residency.

Please note that they require 4 weeks of psych training and not 4 weeks of psych intership. So in case you had 2 weeks of rotation during your intership and another 2 weeks during you 3rd or 4th year than you'll be safe. But remember you need it documented on your medical school transcript.

Good Luck.

reason I said Indians could do psych during internship is that in the US it counts as if you are stilla student. you will need some documentation to that effect though.
