I got really messed up last night, almost but didn't yak. It felt great. I'm suppossed to go out and do it again tonight but I don't know, last night took a lot out of me. I haven't drank in 4 months and wow, I can't believe some people still do this all the time. Maybe I'm just getting older, can't be like the old days anymore where I can rebound and just keep drinking like mad man.

I still am waking up thinking about questions, but since I'm sort of hung over, I find I'm not caring too much anymore. Lets all hope this correlation thing works out. I can't imagine what this waiting period would be like if I didn't take nbme. I would have nothing to gage my performance with and would def. feel like I had failed.
I read in First Aid today that as much as 10-20% of the test is experimental. Thats anywhere from 35-70Qs. I wish it was more like 150Q but whatevers....at least there are a lot that they throw out and don't count.

I remember one person in this forum felt so bad after the exam that he actually took NBME the day after his exam just to see how he was doing. I've been thinking if say you need to get 80% correct to get a good score, then we can calculate as follows: 50 Qs out of 350 are experimental. That's about 7 Qs per block. So for a block of 50, substract 7 first, that makes 43 left. Out of 43 Qs, 80% correct is around getting 34 questions right, which also means you can get 9 questions wrong. So for a block of 50 questions, you can get 9+7=16 wrong, which still gives you about 80% correct. If you have 16 questions per block that don't know the answer, it would make you feel bad enough. But then this will still give you a 80% correct rate. So still not too bad at the end. Well this is just my wild imagination, probably just nonsense.

Thank you for your kind words. I've been feeling a little bit better today, but I still don't know what went wrong on the exam. And the sad part is that this is the exam I studied for the most in my entire life. I really thought that is gonna be fair and NBME-like, but life is full of surprises....

I'm gonna put my score when I'll receive it.

hi berk,
do not worry,i felt exactly the same when i did my step 2 but it ended up pretty good..so yous will be good too.. something over 90 maybe 99..so don't think about anymore and try to relax and enjoy the waiting period..
wish you the best..

I really appreciate it. I know, I feel like crap right now because I tried so hard. I really put my heart and soul into studying for this exam. I've never studied for something harder so I'm just hoping that things work out. Thanks again for the post. Any support at this point is def. well recieved.

All the best,
Berk

I found this in the exam experiences somewhere posted by aleemd

"called up nbme and asked them, apparently, all questions within a test are equal points, but some tests are easier than others... ie, i person can get only 60% right in one hard test and still pass, but another person might need to get 70% of the questions to pass on an easy test. Since these are two extremes i would think most of our tests are within the 62-67% range...."

This is good news to all those who had a truly difficult test and might explain why so many people feel like they failed with a hard exam and others feel they had an easy exam.

Do you think this means that each exam is scored only against people who took the same exam?

Yeah, I don't think that they compare the performance with a standard, and if they call that a standard, then what the standard is? Because you can only tell how hard a test is after you see people do it. I don't think they can say on their own that a particular test is hard or easy (they made it, for them it's easy), so I hope too that mine was a difficult one, and I will pass, after all.

this is what i have hard from the research i have done, and i think its accurate..... u can even look on the kaplan website and theyll give you the lowdown. yeah, some tests are more difficult than others, and youre probably better off getting a harder test because the curve will work in your favor. also, kaplan states that a pass on a test can be anywhere from 55-65% depending on what kind of test you get. i would conclude, and im pretty sure im right, that each question is pooled on a curve of people who have taken that question and from there they do that for every question and then come to a final score. so if most people got the question wrong, they know its shitty question and will most likely be dropped. if they dont do that, then they must have a ton of different types of tests and they merely pool your score on the whole test to others who took the same exact test and then come to a conclusion.

obviously, u cant compare someone who had an easier test to someone who had a harder test, thats just ridiculous.

berk, i know you only took NBME 1 and thats probably why youre trippin so hard hahaha. NBME 2 is way harder dude than 1, and i think more like the real exam. nonetheless, the curves are the same. im telling you dude, when i took NBME 2, i specifically waited before i pressed finish to so i could remembert how i felt....and it was like complete shit, but my score went up. i specifically did that so i can kinda be more calm now for this month. the bottom line is that how you feel after the test has no correlation to how you perform. dude, i guarantee you did well, especially since it sounds like you had a harder test, it will most likely work in your favor.

my test was hard, but i didn't feel as demoralized as some of u guys after the test. so my test was probably easier dude. so ill probably end up with a not so hot curve on my test. time will tell.

im just glad its over and im enjoying my rest. dude, like i said, there is no way youre gonna do bad, you are tripping HARD...haha. trust me dude. if anyone is gonna bomb this thing, its most likely me dude, considering my NBME was not that good and my test was probably a lot easier than you guys's.

im off to chill....

berk, this is right out of kaplan..........

"USMLE Step 1
Scoring
With the new computer exam, you should receive your score back within 3 weeks of your test date. The USMLE Step 1 is scored and reported on two-digit and three-digit scales. Your score report will also include a pass/fail designation as well as a graphic depiction of your performance by discipline and organ system. The defined scale is based on the performance of a criterion group. This group represents a previous group of second year US med students who took the exam for the first time at the end of their second year of medical school.

The minimum passing score on the three-digit scale is 182, while the passing score on the two-digit scale remains 75 (75 does NOT mean 75%).

To achieve a passing score, you typically need to answer between 55-65% correct (it can vary based on the calculated difficulty of the exam you took as each candidate takes a different version of the exam)."

wow, congratulation , you are great

Congrats!! grin I am sure you will get a great score. You might receive it in mail tomorrow or so... Yes my anxiety level went up after I tried oasis trick. It reached its peak the moment I opened the mail. I was so nervous that I didn't find my score at first. After I made sure it's not at the back side either, I realized that the score was in huge bold font, in 3 rows: Pass, 3-digit, 2-digit, with explanations beside them. When I first saw it, I thought it was about how they score people rather than it's my real score. Anyway the wait will be over soon. Congrats again. grin
