I'm a doctor from india doin my PG in Internal Medicine.I plan to give my usmle and come to USA.Of late i read abt interventional radiology and found it very exciting.Cud anyone in the forum advice me whether its possible for a person like me who has done Internal medicine to take interventional radiology in USA and if so how shud i go abt planning it and how long wud it take before i come out as an interventional radiologist.

I am currenlty doring neurology...I belive that you either have to be in neurlogy or in radiology for you to do IN....and there are no formal body which governing the IN specialty yet but we are in the process of setting it up now with few of other residents who are also neurology and who are also interested in IN!

Interventional radiology typical pathway (if you want to be an interventional radiologist as opposed to interventional neurologist) includes your internship (1year), diagnostic radiology residency (4years), and vascular and interventional radiology fellowship (1 year at least).
So if you decide to do it, it will take you 6 years from the start of your training.

You don't have to be a radiologist in your country to become a radiologist here in USA. Radiology is very competitive, but still possible for an IMG, just more difficult.
