HI
my friends said that it is easy to get in US thro canada, planning to give MCCEE,is it worth ?is it a long procedure? <:wahtch_where_you_go:>
ur advice will be of great help grin
bye

As a canadian you have to pass MCCEE in order to be eligible for J1 visa. So IMO you should take MCCEE just to be on the safe side. Just in case you dont meet requiremnts for H1b in the end or are not able to find a H1 sponsoring spot than you have to go for J1 and if you havent taken MCCEE and passed it than you cant apply for J1(CANADIANS ONLY)

MCCEE isnt a very difficult exam. Quite easy as compared to USMLE. I took it in january. by that time i had already completed all usmle exams so didnt find it much difficult.

H1B has nothing to do with MCCEE. MCCEE is a candian exam and H1b is needed for residency in USA. If you are right now in INDIA than I don’t know why u r worried about MCCEE. Just take all USMLE exams and if you manage to get a residency spot than apply for H1B. I don’t know whats MCCEE has to do with whole thing.

Hi nonstopdoc,

I am a landed immigrant in Canada,I passed MCCQE last year, but since its difficult to get residency here in Canada,I am planning to move to US....I got a question for you..when you said that you have better chance at H1b if you have passed MCCEE,did you mean MCCQE? Cause you know they are different exams..Also I have my Step2 Cs in 2 months and I am scred I might not be able to get visitor visa for that. Can you tell me how should I approach it and what are my chances of securing a visitor visa?
THANKS...GL

H1b has nothing to do with any canadian exam. Being a canadian permanent resident or citizen you need to pass MCCEE if you want canada to give tou a letter of need if you wanna apply for J1 visa which is a student exchange visa.

Being a canadian PR you wont have any problem in getting a visitor visa to US. Just apply to your local US consulate office and show them your permit and the letter ecfmg sends everybody. I did the same and he gave me 10 year Multiple entry which they give to all canadian who are not citizens and need visa for US.

Good Luck

I am sorry but I am not sure what letter you are talking about from ECFMG.I mean they just sent me an email confirmation for CS.Do you mean I have to get a print out of the email and the scheduled date.
And thanks for the reply.Even I was wondering why would passing Canadian exam make any difference!![/quote]

ECFMG also sends a letter that is meant to support your visa application for the exam. I think its an option you can choose while you are filling the step 2 cs application form in case you are forigen grad. I received that letter by mail few days later after I got my scheduling permit. You can take that letter along with the permit when you go for your interview for B1/B2 visa.

I am not sure whether you can ask ecfmg now for that letter or not. maybe they will send you one after you receive your CS permit.
As far as I know US visa offices in canada dont deny visa to Candaian PRs unless they have some compelling reason to do so. So i guess you'll be fine, just show them your permit, explain your situation and I am sure they will understand.
