Area 22 resent at the temporal and parietal lobe junction and receives fibers from the visual association cortex[just posterior to it] & the posterior auditory cortex (41/42) and send fibers to the broca's area of speech, frontal lobe's area 44/45

I read in another forum that Wernicke's area is responsible for understanding written and spoken language. That's why when Wernicke's area is lesioned, the patient is not aware of his problem. But when the lesion is at Broca's area while the Wernicke's function is intact, the patient is frustrated with his language problem. Broca is responsible for motor (production of language).

Wernicke's speech area in the dominant hemisphere is on Brodmann's area 22. Destruction results in receptive, fluent aphasia(Wernicke's aphasia), in which the patient can not understand any form of lenguage.Speech is spontaneous, fluent and rapid but make little sense.
