Take it as soon as possible! Results take FOREVER, and when you get them, there is no guarantee that they won't change them retroactively (just look at the usmle step 2cs website right now).

You have to get it out of the way as soon as you are reasonably confident that you will pass it if you take it.

Again, just to get the point across:

If you are hoping to match in 2006, ideally you should take step 2cs NOW.

Schedule it as soon as possible! NOW!

You can expect to wait for results for AT LEAST two months, probably more after the last screwup.

Actually preparing for the exam itself shouldn't take long if you have adequate clinical skills and your English is half-decent. To play it safe, I'd take a week or so just to do the cases in first aid/USMLE-world thoroughly.

For now, forget about step 2ck!

Unless you get step 2cs over with as soon as possible, there is no WAY that you will be ECFMG-certified when the match opens (and not being certified will hurt your chances a little bit).
