Will you guys get your ECFMG-certificates on time? Isn't there a seven-year limit from the time you take the first step?

Thanks for the congrats everyone and good luck ravi_online with your results. It is a painful wait. As for the 7 year rule, I am an american grad and do not have to take the CS portion of step 2 (thank god). I plan to take step 3 in June and make it under the time period. I have sent all of my application material in and now waiting for the date.

The 7 year rule begins as soon as you pass the your first step (whether it is step 1 or 2). You need to complete all the steps within 7 years post that exam date. I am not familiar with the ecfmg certificate. If it is a requirement to take one of the steps then it needs to be complete within the 7 years as well.

Yes, the CS is a recent requirement for US grads. I have been in touch with both FSMB's and NBME. My application has been accepted for the step 3 already. I cannot recall the year the rules changed but it is beyond my year. Thanks for looking out though...

Hi, I am totally new here, it is nice to see all of you sharing the experience. I am preparing for step 2 CK using Kaplan Q bank. So what kind of percentage of accuracy I need to get on Q bank questions to pass step 2? Thanks a lot P.S. I graduated in 1996, so it has really been a long time, I can write PCR, but I cannot write prescribtion

You should look at the exam thread on the top of the discussion list. Beyond that everyone who posts their scores usually gives the percentages of their mcq's. I cannot tell if some of the posts are after repeating the exam several times or first time exams. I tried to clarify that with my scores so others could gauge themselves. I think you need to have USMLE world in your life along with Kaplan. I thought Kaplan was helpful but USMLE world was what I relied on. I combed through this website and I think others agree. It made the difference for me. Hope this helps and good luck...

Good luck next week. I do not claim to be an expert on this exam (82) but I am happy to share what my approach especially since I relied on everyone elses advice on this forum. I would continue to review Crush and not go over a new source. I am not a big fan of First Aid. I did not spend as much time going over Crush because it seemed to be covered well in USMLEworld. I did think that Crush was a good source of material that was relevant to the Step 2. I think I am more of an interactive learner. I made notecards for myself with the diagnoses on the front and relevant info on the back. It helped by allowing me to write (for what that is worth) and bring everything together. I found them helpful during the times I was unable to sit in front of a computer (comfort food). Unfortunately, I was caught up the last week taking care of stuff I had put off the prior months. I think the week prior to the exam should be filled with reviewing both notes (if you do not have any use crush) and mcq's that you have had the chance to review. NOTHING NEW If I had to live that week over I would have tried to put everything off a little more and review those questions as much as possible. The day before I completed two exams I went to bed early, practiced a few questions in the morning for confidence buiding and that was it. I felt very unsure of myself throughout the entire exam. My strategy was to at least have diagnosis for each question and narrow it down as well as possible. After the first two tests I became a little less confident and started to become somewhat haphazard but I tried to stick to the plan. It is a long test. I am using this same approach for step three. A focus on mcq's ensuring that I learn from my mistakes and trusting Kaplan and USMLE world has done their homework. Since the material is very similar I have pulled out my cards again and have made a new section for them which is treatment.

I agree, at this point have faith in what brought you to this point. Try to take the day and relax as much as possible. A clear mind with as much rest as possible is key to reading and solving the puzzles.

I originally thought that I would take it about 2 weeks prior to the exam and changed my mind. I thought that it would confuse me without knowing exactly what I questions I got right or wrong. I also thought that if I did not do well on it I would probably start to get more anxious about the exam. Hope this helps...

I can not comment about surgery but have known plenty of residents that graduated and had a substantial amount of time between doing other things. It is just a matter of finishing the boards. i doubt it something that you need to worry about. Good luck!
