antiemetics as the name indicates are to supress vomiting for eg. pt undergoing chmotherapy! remember it this way: CENTRAL EMESIS CENTRE [reticular formation of the brain stem] receives input from following sources: a- CTZ [monitors blood and CSF] b- Vagus NTS - Splanchnic afferents [gut] c- Cerebral cortex [anticipatory] d- Vestibular apparatus [motion sickness] Drugs MAO's are: -5HT3 antagonists [ondansetron] -D2 antagnists [metoclopramide/promethazine] -H1 antagonists [cyclizine] -M antagonists [scopolamine-famous transdermal patch for motion sickness] -cannabinoid agonists [dronabinol] -corticosteroids are also supplemented in particular to control CTZ induced!
