b, her parents
c, her boyfrend

b-parents

I thought the same as you do. but the answer is herself. I remember read from somewhere that abortion, which is different from prenatal care, needs consent from the parents. while normal prenatal care needs only herself's consent where she's considered a partial emancipated minor. Anybody can justify my thought?

the patient is not an emacipated minor.

emanicipated minors
married <18 yrs
military
living bythemselves

pregnancy by itself is not emanicipation

  #5

I know. she's partial emancipated (which is different from emacipated minor) when she's seeking prenatal care. but I am not sure of her current status when she wants an abortion.

in kaplan-it says law varies in each state :?: :x

so now god only knows

No, I just did the question and UW said the answer is herself. that's why I am confused.

yes I did this qs from uw few day ago and the ans was herself.I donot agree with the ans though unless they mention something that makes her an emencitated minor(supporting herself,or military or something).Or is abortion covered in the prenatal care <red_eye> ::very_confused:: .Very very confusing.

parental consent not reqd ...
a. emergency situations
b. for rx of STDs
c. for prescription of contraceptives
d.medical care during pregnancy
e. Rx of drug and alchohol dependance..............high yield psychiatry, i guess abortion comes under medical care during pregnancy

Pregnecy or even having a child does not make her emancipated unless she is living independantly and supporting herself(or her child).I think this question in uw controversial.I t doesn't say if she is independant.Medical care during pregnency does not include abortionor termination of the pregnency.

Contrary to may opinions on this question, the answer is Seek permission from Herself. There is no iota of doubt in this.
Listen to Steven Daugherty saying this on Step 1, step 2....and Alina saying the same thing on Step 3 videos.
It is unlikely that people (minors) come for the treatment of Gonorrhoea, Cocaine addiction, Abortion with the consent from their parents. The treatment is very very important.
All those who are more than 13 , if they come for issues like Abortion, Birthcontroll pills , C...related diseases(STD), Drug addiction (Pnemonic ABCD), you have to treat them, and there is no doubt in that. Hopefully this puts an end to needless controversy.

unlikely to face a question about abortion in USMLE exams because law about this is different in every state.

I agree with vyseerx, the answer is HERSELF, she is partially emancipated and she can ask for treatment of STD, birth control, prenatal care, abortion, drug abuse, by herself. I read it in Kaplan books.

Currently, 34 states require either parental consent or parental notice before the procedure. I agree with Lorena, it is very unlikely to have such a question on the exam. A very good site for more information is www.guttmacher.org
