Homeobox genes, also known as Hox genes are transcription factors involved in the rostrocaudal patterning of the brain and spinal cord.

you're right about HOX gene!
In addition, mutation of HOX gene may cause extra digits( synpolydactyly) or short digits (brachydactyly)
Vitamin A- regulator of HOX genes.

What about PAX genes?

PAX genes-mutations assoc. w/ malformations
PAX 3- Waardenburg syndrome (cong. pigment abn. & deafness)
Pax 6- aniridia
PAX 2- Wilm's syndrome
