How much it is necessary for preparation to get a test date? As somebody told me that first do the preparation then take a date? Or is it good to have a date infront of you and then prepare? I am not confident to do that Because i have heard a lot of friends took the date and then reschedule it . On one side it seems waste of money but on the other it seems that it may put u in some pressure to keep studying. All suggestions are welcome.

In my opinion this is a situation which does not have any right or wrong answer. Whatever works best for the individual is right. I scheduled my exam first and than started preparing for the step 1 ( just a few days ago) because I knew that I will be able to study better under pressure of this kind. I had actually started my studies one month earlier but could not stick to it. Although I know there is a chance that like ur friends I may end up extending my eligiblity period and rescheduling my exam but still I am satisfied for I know this is what will work best for me.
I know of many others who first studied and did their preparation and only then did they filled out the application for step 1. So whatever works for u is right for u in this instance in my opinion.
All the best

I decided to do my preparation first then schedule my eligibility periods, only after I finished reading all the subjects and just doing revisions because of these reasons:
-no problems with motivation issues
-can't be bothered with the rigmarole of rescheduling exams
-minimum of 1 month to register for eligibility so why hurry
-$685 + $120=$805 enough for 4 nights in HongKong.Can't waste 800bucks for nothing.Hell no!
Goodluck mate!

FNA,
I read my subjects first at least once for all subjects then pay for my exam.. motivation is not a problem for me as im an optimistic person
(I think!) Doing that it gets me more focused that my exam will be soon then my anxiety gets bigger & that makes me study more.. So it depends on one's preference. Good luck...
