For P. aeruginosa -an impt. cause of nosocomial inf. in immunocompromised & chronically ill pts.
Risk groups include:
immunocompromised pts & hospitalized pts. w/ underlying disease.
radiation therapy pts.
burn pts.
pts. w/ metastatic or metabolic dse.
pts. on prolonged immunosuppressive or antimicrobial tx.
pts. w/ prior instrumentation or manipulation
pts. w/ Cystic Fibrosis
TREATMENT will include antipseudomonal penicillin ( eg TICARCILLIN,
PIPERACILLIN) AND Aminoglycoside (eg TOBRAMYCIN)
Pseudomonas pseudomallei- meliodosis.
Recommended therapy is CEFTAZIDIME

The aminoglycoside seems to be common place + another antibiotic.
The other could also be meropenam or aztreonam
susceptibility testing is usually done.

Pneumonic: Toking CARB PIPEs for MOta.
Mota is Spanish slang for marijuana. So think of a pothead: Ticarcillin, Carbacillin, Pipercillin for Pseudamonas.
