Thanks Mash ,
but isnt DIP involved in the deformity?

u mean boutonniere's and swan neck deformity?
but its not due to inv of joint per se..
boutonniere's -- PIP is forced into flexion by chronic synovitis of the joint-----> elongates central slip ----> rupture---> displacement of the lateral bands ---> increased tension on the DIP extensor mechanism---->hyperextension and limited flexion of the DIP

swan neck --stretching or loss of the terminal extensor tendon attachment at the DIP joint ----> DIP joint flexion because of the unopposed action of the FDP tendon--->shortening of lateral bands--->dorsal migration
PIP joint--- the volar plate becomes lax---->hyperextension at the PIP joint and migration of the lateral bands
