I have heard interesting stories in this forum. The truth is that just the fact that we graduated from medical schools regardless what country we're from, means that we have overcome numerous difficulties and I think the USMLE is just another challenge that we will overcome. Just take your time and study and we will get through this, just like you've gotten through many other things. Good luck to everybody.

to jrdagooc_md.....
Hi! i'm from the philippines, too. i know a few filipino doctors here and they are not really discouraging anybody from taking the USMLE. in fact, they would all say "go ahead! take it!" just study ...... well...... and they're doing great here. so maybe, you will, too. God bless you in your career.

I think there should be no doubt about taking USMLE. If you have an opportunity, take it. Studying and going through residency will be tough. Once you get over residency and go to practice life changes dramatically. With money we get freedom. Yes, many local rednecks never treat us as the same way they treat American doctors. Who cares? As long as they have insurance, do you job and forget about them. With the widespread internet network your social life will not be restricted by a local communitity. You can find friends all over the country and abroad as long as you know what you are looking for. Keeping in touch is not a problem with the money you will be making. You can fly to Paris this week and be in South America exploring pyramids next week.

with the knowledege you have you can work in a medical office or with counties doing social work. Where I live i have the options to work in pharmaceuticals, case manager in social settings or mental health. The pay goes from 10.00/hr to 22.00/hr. Depending on experience when you pass the USMLE and enter the residency the options become endless independently of your race or color.

My message is to make USA your home and learn how to fight for your rights. Do not let some loosers to make you feel bad. Stand up and fight for yourself. Do not expect your fate to fall into your lap..BUT step forward and earn it. Those who discriminate you today might suffer the same after 30 years.

hie, I am an IMG 1995 from not an english language school , came to united stste after 8 years of being far from medical books , (except, book related to daily practice) , when i came to the states every thing so different , but no choice , fortunatly I found a job at research involving myself in medicine in us . i beleive it is time consouming, but helped me to get used to environment faster. Now I know that I have to pass the exams and I am 100% sure that not only it is doable but also easy , just needs time and programing . in the hospital I see every day hundreds of doctors that had the same kind of bariers and colaterals like us , and we are not the first and sure not last , but hopefully among the successfulls.Geting job in medical research is easy , money is better than other places and job is respectfull. you will get a lot of medical experience and it will change your way of looking to basic sciences , , and a good letter of recomendation will help you applying a program , I hope my letter will help some of you with your answers and debates. GOOd luck all, :P

To Guest Dear Guest, it is your private opinion. What I can say is, that there is no better place to live then U.S.A. This country is really taking care of my family and me. This country is giving us opportunity like any other. This country teaches us that people of different races, religion and culture can live, work, and have good time together. My kids have safe place here and great schools. Here I can see where my tax money goes, and so on…. True, it is not easy to start new life from the beginning, true is that it is impossible to make everybody happy. I am the lucky one…. God bless America.

Hi fellows.....I just wanted to say that everything in this life requires sacrifices, and this is our sacrifice, nothing is free, we made a choice and here we are, good or bad, this was our choice, (by the way i dont think it was bad!) and we have to stick to it......or go back to your country defeated. I came here totally alone, and the last words from my family back home were: Never give up! .....and i havent and you shouldnt either! Good Luck to you all
