Kaplan Qbank USMLE

Hi folks. I'm a med student in the Netherlands preparing for my first run at the step I. Not being immersed in the culture of the Boards I have a really simple question. I've read Stainless Stan's informative overview of the scoring system, but I miss what I'm most curious to know: approximately what % of questions do I need to answer correctly to achieve a passing score? I understand that it can change year-to-year, but are we talking about closer to 50% or closer to 80%? I'm a decent student and am disheartened at my scores on practice tests between 50-65%. sad

A little advise concentrate in your weakest subjects based on your simulated exam feedback, there are no correlations, but if you feel insecure and your exam is close then postpone it,

Good luck

sardarni altough I don't believe in correlations your score is quite low, how much time you need to improve? that depends of you, there is no way anyboby can answer that question, which material are you using? how many hours a day are you reading? how much time passed since you began studying? why do you think your score is so low?

sardarni I graduated on 2000. Recently passed the exam with a good score. I read for almost 6 months (with some breaks because of personal problems) an average of 8 hours a day sometimes more sometimes less resting always on Sundays, I used Kaplan notes, Goljan notes, Goljan audios, and some audios from webprep.

I read the books 3 times (except kaplan pathology notes which I only read once and goljan notes only twice), and since the begining I did questions everytime I finished reading a subject, from different sources like kaplan qbook, BSS, NMS 6th edition, Blackwell free questions, princeton review, and I reserved kaplan simulated CD, usmle CD (the one they sent you) and kaplan qbank for the last one and a half month of preparation after finishing my third reading in order to point my weak areas or subjects so that I could read and reinforce them during my last 2 weeks before the test.

I listened the audios I mentioned during my 2nd reading, and repeated goljan audios only during my third reading.

Good luck
