Hi,

I am applying for the next year's Match. My wife is applying too. I guess the interview season is from Mid-Nov to January. We are also expecting our baby in the middle of December. So obviously my wife can attend interviews only after that...(i.e. mainly in January 2006).She is interested in Pediatrics programs.

My question is this: Does postponing all her interviews to January affect her chances in Matching. Is it possible that many positions would have gotten filled up by that time....

She is kind of worried of limiting her chances of matching. Could anyone give an honest answer about this...

Thanks.....

Yes it definitly affects your chances especially if you are considering prematches. Lot of IMG friendly programs fill more than half of their seats in the months of november and december but than I have seen people getting prematch offers in january too but they are far less than the number of november and december.

If you are going for mtch than attending all interviews in january has pros and cons. The positive point is that programs will remember you better when they rank you in febuary and negative point is that you have to schedule all of your interviews in a one month which will make it very difficult to manage. Most of the programs I have seen interview on fixed days of a week i.e. tuesdays and fridays not a hard and fast rule though.

As your wife is expecting a baby at that time, theres no point in discussing it. But dont worry attending interviews in january doesnt means she has no chance. Hell my interview at the program where I finally matched was not even n january but 1st of Feb. So dont worry, miracles do happen. smiling face
