Hello Everyone
Can anybody tell me if someone could only use KAPLAN books for USMLE 1. I bought this complete set of books with Q book and CD some months back but it is written in the preface of these books that these books are not useful if you use without KAPLAN Live lectures. Is this true? Has anybody used these books alone in the past and what was the score. I initially started with following books
ANATOMY - HIGH yield
BIOCHEM - lippincott
PHYSIOLOGY- BRS
PHARMA - lippincott
PATH - BRS
BEH SCI -- BRS
But then somebody advised me if you only study kaplan books which are available on ebay that will be more than sufficient and you ll improve your score. I left my original books and bought Kaplan books from ebay with Q book and simulated exam. Is it worth??? or have I made a mistake and I should go back to my original books..
So in all there are 2 questions
1. Are KAPLAN books superior than these above mentioned books
2. If Yes then are they alone sufficient or do you have to take live lectures too?
You help will be greatly appreciated.

i believe that any source(just ONE source) if memorized, reviewed, understood will be enough... the question of HOW is superior to any question of what when it comes to the USMLE..
i am personaly using kaplan in some subjects, and other BRS, HY series in other.. you gotta tailor the sources according to YOU...

drcounsel is right, both sets of books are good for Step 1. I know ppl using kaplan books n getting good scores even without video or live lectures.
Choose the books that help you understand the subject, they ask the subject in USMLE not the books!!

I used the Kaplan Books exclusively and failed, but did come very close. I would use them as a broad overview since you bought them and supplement it with stuff like BRS for individual subjects. Careful selling them on Ebay, b/c Kaplan doesn't like that and will get the auction banned. They wipe them about every 4 days or so. If you wanna try to get rid of them on ebay, make sure you include your email in the auction and make it a 3 day auction. :evil:

i ve never studied from kaplan books ,except q book for more questions...i studied almost same books you have in your list ,and passed step 1,got 86/212...i agree with drcounsel by the way..reading 1 book 2 times (i mean understanding from 1 source ) would be better than reading 2 different books 1 by 1...good luck

I was worried after hearing everyone say they read from kaplan in other forum sites,Because i ordered my books and they haven't arrived yet.But basically i'm using lippincott's for biochem and pharma,BRS for phys,path and behavioral science,and high yield for anat and Made ridicu simple for microbio and the 1st aid overall with the board simulator series for questions for now.I will get the qbank later.If i study these well they should be enough right?
