Hi everyone, I just discovered this site and I need your help quickly. My test date for the boards is 4/13/05. Not too long away.

I've been studying for about 5 weeks now, close to 8 hours a day. Ive used Kaplan Books as my mainstay, and FA is my note-taker. I've used a few other HY books, Clinical Vignettes, and buzzword books. I am getting about 65-70% right on Qbank. I am very confident that I will pass no problem. However, passing by how much is my current question. My scores right now probably put me ~210.

My goal in life is to be a specialist, I honestly don't want to be in one of the less competitive programs such as family, internal, pediatrics, or psychology. I know alot of factors go into applying for residency but in general, board scores are almost like a screener for the more comeptitive programs, such as orthopedic surgery. And since since my major in college was sports medicine, I kinda like orthopedic surgery.

Ok, so my question is this. Should I delay my 3rd year rotations a month and take the boards a month from now? I really think I can improve my score in a month. But, how much realistically in this time frame could it help my score? I talked to some friends, most said dont do it, get it over with. One guy said it was like the Monroe-Kellie Hypothesis, that my brain size is limited by its bony skull and that any new stuff that I study would just leak out like a central herniation. I looked at some other posts on this site too, but they were pretty much inconclusive. Has anyone taken an extra month and seen their scores improved?

My first rotation is a month in neurology, which I cant see myself devoting my life too. And talking to my school's admin peeps, they say I would just make up neurology in place of one of my 4th year electives. So, I figure this is an ideal situation if any for me to add an extra month study time and review what I know especially doing more questions. And I already took a vacation break at the beginning of our time off, so I dont need another one.

Ok, what do you guys think? Should I take an extra month and maybe get a 230? I've got a meeting with one of the deans on Monday the 11th, so I have to know by then. Thanks everyone.

Sorry forgot to mention, I am a US medical school student at an accredited university. LOL, are there any unaccredited medical universities in the US?
