Hi,

I am currently in my third year of H-1B as a researcher in US. I am thinking of switching career to a clinician. I am thinking of getting into a J-1 visa and want to return to my home country after completion of my residency. Does anyone know whether the years I have used in H-1B is deducted from J1? Also, do I have to leave US to get the J1 visa approved before I start residency? I am afraid that if I leave US, I may not get a visa to return to the US?

I will appreciate if one of you guys in this forum can provide me with an answer.

Thanks
