can patient of trauma with pneumothorax presnt without distended neck veins??
plz answer in detail :oops:

it all depends on what type of pneumothorax you are talking about

Plain pneumothorax-There is moderate shortness of breath,one side of the thorax has no breat soundss with hyperesonat sounds to percussion.There is no distended neck veins...

Hemothorax ,same presentation ab above but there is dull to percussion on the affected side.No distended veins...
Both of the above you start mgt with CXR and drain

In Tension pneumothorax -signs of shock,CVP is high,distended neck veins and severe respiratory distress and there is tracheal deviation.This is an emergency!!!You act quickly by putting big IV needle into pleural space.
