differential diagnosis of Schizophrenia from,
a)Breif psychotic disorder
b)Schizophreniform disorder
c)Schizoaffective disorder
d)Schizoid personality disorder
e)Schizotypical personality disorder
f)substance induced psychotic disorder

Schizophrenia - thought disorder that impairs judgment, behavior, ability to interpret reality for at least 6 mos.



Brief Psychotic disorder- symptoms more than 1 day but less than 30 days. Most freq. seen in the low SES, o presence of psychological stressors.

Schizoaffective Disorder: uninterrupted pd. of sxs. for maj depression, manic episode or mixed episode. Hallucinations for at least 2weeks in the absence of mood symptoms.



Substance induced psychotic disorder- pos. substance abuse , one good ex that I could remember is the steroid inducedpsychoses.



Help me out w/ schizotypal Plz..

schizotypal is peculiar appearance,magical thinking (believing that ones thoughts can affect the course of events),odd thought pattern & behavior.

it is cluster A type of personality disorder which is charaterised by-

avoid social relations,peculiar,not pyshotic.

[left]schizotypal and schizoid personality traits are both part of Cluster A ie.- Odd and Eccentric.

Schizoid:
>pattern of social withdrawal thru out life...but comfortable with tht(contrast with avoidant personality who inwardly seek to socialise)
>no though disorder
>dont display too many emotions, seen as eccentric and isolated ppl
>males twice affected

Schizotypal:
>weird ppl, possess some weird collectibles
>hv social anxiety to the point of paranoia(suspiciousness)
>fanciful thinking, illusions, ideas of reference
>isolated and lack close friends[/left]
