Hi Everyone! I passed my USMLE step 2 in 97 and step 1 in 98. I have to take the step 3 before August 2005 otherwise I will have crossed the 7 year limit and then I will be required to take step 1 and 2 all over again. I haven't started studying for step 3 as yet but intend to do so at the earliest. Would it help to take any classes? Or should I just study on my own? If so, please recommend some solid study material as I have forgotten everything I read for step 1 and 2. Moreover, I am in a non-clinical specialty and also have a small kid which doesn't make it easy to prepare for step 3. Your sincere advise will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Wannapass Take Kaplan 4 weeks course.Concentrate on studies for these 4 weeks. Handover the responsibility of your kid to your spouse.Take leave (annual leave ) from your residency. Do fulltime study.Keep doing questions everysingle day. Do them at least 100 per day.I hope that your exam is at the end of August.Hope this advice helps. If you need further advice you mail me to my personal mail box. Take care Jayakrishna

i agree completely with Jayakrishna. If you are really interested in USMLE, then do all to have a lot of free time to study for step 3 (more if you īve forgotten many things about clinical sciences). Step 3 isnīt easy so you have to effort and study hard. Good luck !!! i think kaplan is the key.

You don't necesserely have to take Step 1 again if you cross the 7 year limit. Just open your practice in a state which has no 7 year limitations. As far as I remember, NY was one of these states.

i think itīs possible wannapass !!. You have the choice that yelenatx says or/and you can try to pass it, yesterday a friend of mine told me that he studied a couple of weeks and he did it well, he doesnīt have the results yet but he is gonna pass it, he felt very well, so if you study hard youīll pass it, itīs not that difficult.

Are your 7 years not already up if u took the first exam in 1997 ,going by calender years. Also u can apply for residency in any state without step 3 then apply license for states with 10 year requirements.I am in the same boat.I sat my first exam Aug 1998 and was told I have till Dec 2005 before my 7 years r up .
