The answer is REM. There is a sharp drop in the amount of REM sleep after the early years, falling from 8 hours at birth to less than 1 hour in old age. The change in the amount of NREM sleep is much less marked, falling from 8 hours to about 5 hours over the lifespan.

REM sleep is 20% of total sleep time & remain constant upto 80 yr of age.......after that it is decline....
1st stage 4 then stage 3..... 8) .

Where did you get the answer? In FA, it said that REM sleep ↓ with age.
I also checked other materials, some of them mentioned stage 3 & 4 decline too. I'm confused.

For newborns, they sleep over 20 hrs. So 8 hrs of REM should be normal.

1)REM sleep
2)4 stage
3)3 stage
