I have an L2 visa which makes me eligible to work here. I even got my EAD card which permits me to work here in US.

And I do know that to get a H1 sponsership you need to complete your Step-3 for acceptance.

How about my case? Do i need to take Step 3 aswell...
Is anybody out there in same situation ? with an L2 and Not taking Step 3 and applying for residency ?

thanks,

If you have your EAD card - you don't have to worry about getting a visa. You won't need step three right now - eventually, you will have to take it, but not until you are in your residency

Good luck

Hi ,
I am L2 visa holder and yet to get my EAD.I would like to know whether with my EAD i can enter a residency program or whether i would need to change my visa status to J1 or H1.
thank you,

If you have EAD - you don't need to think about a J or an H visa at all.

If you are on an L2 visa - I think that you can work one year only on it. By then you must be on a H1 visa or a green card (perm resident or EAD). If you are expecting your Perm Residency status, you don't want to apply for a J-1 visa - that can never be changed to an H or PR.

What is EAD?

  #6

Hi,
EAD is employment authorisation document.

  #7

As i understand, you can apply for residency only on EAD. Am I right?

Hi, sree,

Is EAD the "Employment Authorization Card" issued by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service (BCIS)? Thanks in advance.

No, you can apply for residency without even having a visa (well, you'll need one to get in the country to interview). You can work in a residency on EAD, J-1, H-1B, etc.

Hi, BBB,

My green card is still pending. I applied I-140 and I-485 at the same time.
I do not have any senses when I am going to get GC. However, I got Employment Authorization Card which is issued by U.S. department of JUSTICE. I wonder if Employment Authorization Card is the EAD card you mentioned. Thank you.

Thank you very much.

Would you mind telling me if EAD works for all the residency programs in USA?

EAD is a form from the Federal government. It's the next best thing to a green card. You can work at a residency or Wendy's. If you have an EAD and you don't know that you can work - check with your immigration attorney.

Thank you very much. Now my mind is exactly clear.
