Hi I'm a highschool student who gets decent grades, Bs and As, and does decent amount of extracurricular activities. I want to attend UC Davis and major in Genetics. But I've heard from friends that people who have graduated with a genetics major aren't using what they've learned for their career. Most became workers in restaurants. I was wondering what are the chances that I would become a geneticist. I would like to work in laboratories working under companies or something. But if that fails I might teach genetics instead.

Id suggest somehow finding out Who's Who in genetics nationally or internationally and following up with them or there secretary. Also I have a nicely written text on basic human genetis by the Mange and Mange.( not that I read it a lot) Id recommend contacting them. Hope this helps.(Also check genetic journals for "inside scoops"
