I can not prepare with you right now, since I am done with step 3 . But I can outline strategy for step 3.
Study for 2 months. If you have taken your step 2 more than 6 months ago, may be you need 3 months. Study for 10 to 12 hours a day.
Medicine is the MOST important part of the exam. Office management constitutes the major portion of the exam. This exam assumes that you know how to diagnose conditions like septic arthritis and osteomyelitis , Angina and Myocardial Infarctions so, do not concentrate on making a diagnosis. Most of the time , they give you the diagnosis also.What is the best initial test is the most common question. What is the best initial therapy? What is the next best step in management? These are the common questions. Prepare for these for every single common medical surgical and pediatric conditions. If you are already doing residency, this is very easy as you will be doing these every single day.
If this appears daunting, simply study the Kaplan step 3 material from cover to cover. Do all the questions in Kaplan q bank, q book and usmleworld. Know the answers and explanations. Think like an examiner and you will manufacture many questions .Chances are that they will appear in the exam.
60 days preparation.Everysingle day, keep doing questions.keep studying too. Hope this helps. If you are having doubts you can mail me to my mail box

hi, jayakrishna, thanks a lot for the detailed suggestion. i just took my step 2 cs 2 weeks ago. if i pass, i will aim for the 2006 residency program and hopefully h1b visa. so i will need to take step 3 asap once i am ready. any suggestion when will be the optimal time for me to take step 3? thanks a lot.
