Hi,
kaplan physiology says that phase 4 of the SA node is due to the decreasse in k conductance. However, BRS says it's because of the increase in Na conducanac? which is right?
The other one: BRS says that purkinje fiber's depolarization results from Na influx?? but purkinje is a pacemaker...is it due to Ca influx?

as SA node
phase 4 is due to Na
purkinjie conductance is like SA/AV so thus it should be Calcium
the BRS and kaplan notes tripped me out as well.

Thanks, Berkeyboy...I personally feel that SA node phase 4 results from the close of ungated K channels. Na does not seem to play roles in pacemakers...well, I need evidence though. Please let me know if you got any reference for Na influx for phase 4. Thanks

by the way, berkeyleyboy. Did you receive changes in kaplan 2005 vs 2002 from docwho?! I noticed that you seemed to get responded. If you did, could you please please please send me a copy.

SA/AV phase 4 is based on Ik, Ica, If, (pacemaker)
Ik = K+
Ica = Ca
If = Na/k
So I guess its all of them.
also purkinjie has pacemaker as well but uses only If.
