Diagnosis key is to check 3AM Glucose 1. Somogi-- 3AM glusoce low, then cetecholamine.... elevated, then morning glucose high. 2. Down-- growth hormone...elevated gradually since fall asleep, so 3AM glusoce high, morning glucose even higher.

Somogyi-->early morning hyperglycemia.Cause is usually ^ amount if insulin that wud led to hypoglycemia arround 3 am......couterregulatory hormones kick in leading to hyperglycemia Dawn phenomenon-->early morning hyperglycemia.Cause is lower than required dose of inslin leading to hyperglycemia. To manage u first treat it as if it is Somogyi ----> decrease insulin and moniter bld glucose during night .cz if u increase insulin(thinking it is dawn )then pt is at risk of having sever hypoglycemia which can be fatal. Any correction????
