I have this question about step 1 scores. I did my Step1 for the first time 4 years ago while I was still in the med school. ( I'm an IMG) I didn't do much study at that time, mostly because I knew very little about the test, what to expect, and also due to lack of resources (books, q's). It seems crazy now, but at that time I only did like 2 months of studying, using mostly non- English books. It was a suicide and I have failed with score around 71 percentile. Anyway I took my time, used this forum for advice, and hit the US review books to prepare myself for the second attempt . I came back to the game this year with a Step 1 score 254, 99th percentile. I was wondering how PD's would looked upon those scores now . I mean is this old fail at first attempt make a major set-back to my application ?? Or do they consider it as a huge improvement and with a nice step 2 score are willing to forget about old failure ?

Most program director would know from the dates between your first and second attempt what you did. It should be okay.
