hi i wanted to know, that to obtain a lor from a us doc... do u have to work there in a hospital for sometime...? if u know a doc in us, or if he happens to be ur relative, can he give u a lor...? (actually, i am not very clear abt the lor's ... so my q's might seem to be a bit stupid)... another q, i am reading harrison's principles of internal medicine these days... shud i continue with this or shud i switch to CMDT... (i am in my 3rd yr of mbbs) thanks

You should have worked directly with and under the supervision of the US doc who is witing your letter. And, that US doc should be faculty at a teaching hospital/university. Your realtives wouldn't be useful. You should try and do some clinical work in the US as a student or intern (Indian intern=US student). If that fails, then do an observership after graduating. Read Harrison's if you want. It is way too much for MBBS or for USMLE, but it is a great book.
