Most common sit of origin is from Deep Vein Thrombosis.

i am asking abut embolism.... deep veins of lower limb are common site for thrombosis.....but if it remains confined there it will not embolize.... the main site for embolism is femoral vein because it has a larger caliber...so the moment the DVT progressses and approaches femoral vein it is more likely for the thrombus to gets detached and emoblize! tht's the point Goljan cleared in his lectures tht deep veins are resposible for the formation of thrombi....but femorl vein is responsible for the detachment of the thrombus to form emboli......[large caliber] ofcourse DV proximally forms femoral veins!
