I heard no hospital will sponsor J1 waiver during your residency. However, you could get waiver if you work in a remoted area after your residency. Following is the information. Designated State Health Agency Request: A designated State Health Agency or its equivalent may request a waiver on behalf of medical doctors who have been offered a full-time job with a health care facility serving an area with a shortage of medical professionals. In order to qualify for the waiver, the person must agree in writing to work at the facility for forty hours per week, for a minimum of three years and must begin work at the health care facility within ninety days of the waiver approval I am confused by the last sentence. Does it mean after I sign the contract with the hospital, they can apply for waiver for me even before I started to work there? And since it is "begin work at the health care facility within ninety days of the waiver approval", which visa will I hold since I start to work for the health care facility? Should not be J1 visa any more since the waiver has been approved. So will it be H1b visa? :?:
