Check Freida(American Medical Association). To the best of my knowledge for Orthopaedics you can apply directly without needing any preliminary posts. But I could be wrong!

Hi veer zara thanx for ur reply. i checked everything on freida online before i applied for this year's match. yes you can apply directly to orthopedics program but you don't get any interviews coz they are looking for lot of different things which is impossible for IMG's to do. thats why i asked if anyone has any knowledge about it. i guess i would just wait and see what my destiny holds for me.thanx once again.

it is ALMOST impossible to get ortho as an IMG, although I know one guy who did (but his relative was the PD).

According to Freida 9% posts for Ortho. are IMGs.....so if you're a good candidate I'm sure you stand a good chance(plus the majority never even applies to Ortho. thinking its too difficult and so half the battle is won anyway!)Good luck.

retroviridae.....doesn't IMG mean International Med Grad.??Then why a US grad(irrespective of his antionality)falling in the same category as IMG??

I believe because of the I in IMG. Anyone who is a foreigner and needs a visa is catalogued by the match as international, but it would say US grad. I think the stats are kept that way. Of course, I am not sure. Maybe I am wrong. Otherwise, I think 9% of all ortho spots going to IMGs is way too high, at least anecdotally.

I don;t think the term IMG includes foreigners who graduated from US med. school. 9% is not a flattering figure but it does give some hope to those few who wish to pursue this field.
