Hi!
I see very few comments on the Kaplan lectures in people who report ace scores. I would like to know wether Kaplan lectures are as good for Step 2 as they are for Step 1. What do you think?

Thanks.

my personal view is that lectures are a waste of time. You can accomplish the same thing faster by just studying from the notes. If you have lots of time, then I think the lectures would be a good way to reinforce what you are studying.

lectures are ideal, but they are very expensive. My advice is that if you have the time and the money then go for a course; don't take it if you work or if you need to take out another loan or something. I took the step1 prep and got a 98 a few months later. The course can get you to passing level, but you got to get that ninety on your own.

the best analogy i can give is that a kaplan course is like being spoonfed dessert by a five star chef; while studying on your own is like cooking for yourself. Both will get you full.

I loved your analogy!!! i agree with you completely!

Another option is to get the lectures in DVD. Not all the teachers are worth listening because they just repeat what it is in the notes but others are really, really good.

good luck!

another thing i'd like to add is that 50% of the benefit of a course is group discussion. After the lecture was over, i would spend around 4 hours everyday studying with anyone i could find. Towards the end, I realized i was teaching as well as studying, and if you can get to that level (where you are teaching this stuff to other students); then your almost there. If you do plan on taking a course; group discussion should be a HUGE priority.
